A Cold Work repair installation method was used to reinstate 32m² of the inner bottom of the cargo oil tank No.1 Starboard onboard FPSO Bohai Shi Ji.

  • SPS allowed a safe and unhindered repair to be undertaken
  • Adjacent tanks remained in service
  • The FPSO remained on-station, in full operation whilst the work was carried out
  • Cold Work installation method eliminated risk of fire-related hazards in restricted zone, adjacent to live cargo tanks

All SPS steel components were prefabricated on-shore, of which forty-two pieces comprised top plates and perimeter bars. The new bottom plates were pre-drilled and tapped for vent holes. The prefabrication of components considerably cut works onboard, project duration and POB (Personnel On  Board).

The composite panel created by the bonding of the solid elastomer core, to the existing top and bottom plates, reinstated the strength of the structure. By using SPS as a repair solution, CNOOC not only saved valuable time and money, but improved the lifetime performance of its oil cargo tank.
